Problem :

Plei’s mobile experience had become fragmented and outdated. Players struggled with inconsistent flows, confusing game discovery, and a lack of trust in the overall system. On the backend, design debt slowed feature releases, while the absence of a scalable design system created friction between design and engineering. As the platform moved toward a full marketplace model, it was clear the app was not equipped to scale with growth.

Solution :

I led a complete redesign of Plei’s mobile experience — unifying the app under a modern, scalable design system. The new experience simplifies game discovery, improves usability across booking and waitlist flows, and introduces trust-building mechanisms for players and organizers. By aligning design principles with business goals, the redesign created a platform ready for marketplace growth and new features at scale.

Challenge :

Balancing a full redesign with active product development was a key challenge. The team had to modernize the UI and architecture without disrupting the ongoing growth of the platform. This required a phased approach: introducing a unified design system while rethinking critical flows like game discovery, waitlists, and onboarding. We also had to advocate for moving toward React Native to unify development, ensuring design could scale seamlessly across platforms.

Summary :

The Plei redesign was more than a visual refresh — it was a strategic rebuild of the product experience. By addressing usability pain points, creating a scalable design system, and aligning with the marketplace vision, the new app set the foundation for growth. The result: a modern, trustworthy experience that players love and a flexible system for the business to scale into the future.
