Reducing confusion in high-stakes youth sports
Reducing drop-off and confusion in high-stakes youth sports registration flow, where parents are making time-sensitive, trust-based financial decisions for the largest youth sports organization in the US.

MADE Hoops
Duration :

Role :
Product Designer

Problem :
It became clear through early discovery that parents were encountering friction during the registration process, particularly at moments where they needed to understand cost, commitment, and next steps quickly.
To support both family confidence and operational scale, we focused on solving a few core themes:
Parents needed a faster way to understand available programs and elegibilty
Families needed clearer pricing and commitment moments before progressing
Multi-child registration needed to feel simple, not repetitive
The experience needed to feel trustworthy, polished, and reflective of the MADE Hoops brand.

Solution :
Our strategy for the redesign includes:
Higher completion rates: More users successfully completing end-to-end flows without drop-off, confusion, or the need for manual assistance.
Increased total registrations: A measurable lift in the number of players and teams registered through the platform across each event cycle.
Fewer support requests: Decreased turnaround from the team submission to final roster approval, streamlining event readiness for admins and staff.
Improved system performance: Faster load times and fewer errors across mobile and web experiences, especially during peak registration and event windows.
Reduce manual admin interventions: Fewer backend workarounds or spreadsheet-based fixes required by internal staff, driven by better automation and system workflows.

Challenge :
Designing the registration experience meant balancing the needs of multiple personas—not just parents. Every decision made during registration had downstream implications for program directors, coaches, and administrators responsible for managing athletes, rosters, payments, and day-to-day operations.
The challenge was creating a registration flow that felt simple and intuitive for families while capturing the right information to support complex operational workflows behind the scenes.
Key considerations
Balance the needs of parents, coaches, program directors, and administrators.
Support flexible registration rules across different programs and events.
Ensure data collected during registration flowed seamlessly into roster management and administrative workflows.
Summary :
We delivered a clear, end-to-end registration and event purchase experience that prioritizes confidence at the moment of commitment, especially for mobile-first parents navigating time-sensitive decisions.
Mobile first registration flow established
Clear pricing and commitment moments introduced
Multi-child registration complexity reduced
